With a spritz of About That Night, you allow yourself to succumb to the dawn and all the delicious, lingering recollections of last night.

Like the earthy masculinity of vetiver and lavender entwining with feminine orange blossom as the night meets the day, a spray of this aphrodisiac perfume has that same contrast of dark and light, ever stronger after an unforgettable rendezvous. It opens with fresh citrus top notes of bergamot and lemon, as sensational as the crispest of smooth cotton sheets. Then you're met with a soft caress of sensual, warm amber which leads to the intoxicating dry-down of vanilla that will linger on your skin.

This fragrance is held in a midnight blue flacon to symbolise the rich mystery of the night, and is topped with a contrasting, vivid yellow cap that's reminiscent of the sunrise. As this beautiful glass flacon is refillable, it will be ready to seduce your senses again and again.

From the blossom of the bitter orange tree comes the complex scent of orange blossom, which is at the heart of this perfume. Heady yet fresh, it adds a modern, romantic take on femininity to this perfume. The delicate white flower has come to represent purity and innocence, as well as fertility.

Vanilla

Harvesting Vanilla is an intensive labour of love. That's why it's one of the most expensive, precious spices in the world.

The flowers of the orchid-like vanilla plant actually have no scent – the sweet, sensual fragrance is hidden away inside the seeds of its pods. This delicate ingredient is thought to be an aphrodisiac and is native to Madagascar, where it thrives in the enveloping humidity. Harvesting it is an intensive labour of love. That's why it's one of the most expensive, precious spices in the world.

Meet the Perfumer

With a family background in both science and music, Dominique Preyssas, the nose behind About That Night, is an extraordinary composer of perfumes. Over his 20-year career, he has created some truly iconic perfumes. We caught up with him to find out more about what inspired him to create this evocative fragrance, and the meaning and purpose behind each of the sensual, seductive notes that form its complex composition.

If you had to choose a place that evokes About That Night, where would it be?

Paris. An apartment in Paris, with a small balcony. There's a view of the Eiffel Tower. When you wake in the morning, you throw open the doors and you are met with the cool breeze and warm sunshine, all at once – and the eternally beautiful view of course. It's an explosion of pleasure for the senses.

What was your inspiration for the scent?

It was an image of a woman waking up after a night of passion, in soft white sheets.

How did you go about creating it?

I wanted to create an impression of her specific sense of elation – both relaxed and invigorated. I love the smell when his and hers scents are combined, and this concept fits this image perfectly. So, I looked to bring the two together in a unique way: I took a traditionally elegant, feminine perfume structure, and subtly weaved some of the ingredients we typically find in men's scents throughout it. For instance, the oriental dry-down of vanilla is encased with virile tones of vetiver. Juxtapositions like these take the sensuality of the perfume to a new level.

What is your favourite ingredient in the scent?

For me, it has to be the orange blossom. This is a floral that is both clean and voluptuous, like the sheets on the bed. And it has long been considered an aphrodisiac, so it was a natural choice for this scent!

What do the other ingredients bring to the fragrance?

The fresh, spicy lavender top note is there to enjoy when you first spray, evoking those serene, lazy moments when awakening from the night before. The lavender we use is grown sustainably in the south of France. It's a special ingredient because I can accentuate different facets according to the composition. For About That Night, I emphasise its cool, herbaceous effect. It has a fresh floralcy that makes the scent simultaneously relaxing and reviving, like the mood I was trying to evoke.

For the drydown, I have used natural vanilla, which is smooth, creamy and gently spicy. Like lavender, it's a pliant ingredient. It's actually not at all sweet here, because I have combined it with a touch of earthy vetiver. The result is that it works like a long, sensual embrace.
